Blazers aim to eliminate Hornets from postseason race
Basketball Betting Lines
03/27/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Portland Trail Blazers hope to inch closer to a
postseason spot while eliminating the New Orleans Hornets from playoff
contention in the Big Easy on Saturday.
The Blazers are coming off a big win over fellow Western Conference contender
Dallas on Thursday when LaMarcus Aldridge finished with 20 points, 10
rebounds and five assists, as Portland continued its playoff push with a
101-89 victory over the Mavericks.
Andre Miller had 19 points and 10 assists for the Blazers, while Marcus Camby
added 17 points and 11 boards. Brandon Roy contributed 16 points and seven
assists for Portland, which rebounded from Sunday's loss at Phoenix to win for
the sixth time in its last seven games.
The victory kept the Blazers in the thick of the playoff hunt. Portland is
just one-half game behind San Antonio for the seventh spot in the West, and 1
1/2 games shy of Oklahoma City for sixth. Meanwhile, the Blazers are a
comfortable five games ahead of ninth-place Memphis and can eliminate the
11th-seeded Hornets with a win tonight.
"It was important," Roy said. "It's just important to win right now, but it
feels good that you can beat a team that's second or third in the Western
Conference. This was a huge win for us."
The Hornets are coming off a 105-92 setback to Cleveland on Thursday. LeBron
James scored 38 points on 15-of-22 shooting and added nine assists in that
one, as the Cavaliers took a 105-92 road victory from New Orleans.
Rookies Marcus Thornton and Darren Collison had 20 and 17 points,
respectively, for New Orleans, which won the opener of its five-game homestand
in convincing fashion Monday against Dallas as Chris Paul returned from a 25-
game absence.
Paul struggled in his second game back from a torn meniscus in his left knee,
making 2-of-8 shots for five points while handing out seven assists.
David West notched 16 points in the loss, the Hornets' 11th in the last 14
games.
"We kept it close and played well in the first two quarters. Then they began
to chip away," Hornets head coach Jeff Bower said. "We missed some key shots
and had a few turnovers that really hurt us. They got the momentum going in
the fourth quarter and it was more than we could overcome. We just have to re-
group and get ready for Portland."
These two teams have split a pair of meetings so far this season with each
winning on the other's home floor.

Albert Pujols to be This Year's Home Run Champ Says Online Sportsbook
Barry Bonds is a 50-1 long shot to be this year's home run champ odds. The favorite to be this year's home run champ is none other than Albert Pujols, however.
Now that Barry Bonds is signed and in Giants camp, it is on to his pursuit of all of sports most prestigious records: the all-time home run mark. Bonds sits just 21 homers shy of tying Hank Aaron for the career mark at 755. Word out of Giants’ camp is that Bonds is the healthiest he has been in a few years. Bonds is just two seasons removed from his injury riddled 2005 campaign where he played in only 14 games and hit only 5 home runs. He did come back last year and had a solid season hitting .270 with 26 bombs. All eyes will be on Bonds this spring and summer not only because of his home run chase but his highly publicized steroid abuse allegations. If and when Bonds breaks the record, he surely will not get the positive attention one should for breaking a record that was once thought of as “unbreakable”. Despite Bonds decent season last year, he is just 50-1 at MySportsbook.com to lead the MLB in long balls this season.
Not surprisingly, the favorites to go deep the most times this season are Albert Pujols 5-1, Ryan Howard 6-1, David Ortiz 8-1 and Alex Rodriguez 12-1. With 49 homers, Pujols finished second in the National League behind Howard (58). Pujols is considered the favorite due to the consistent power numbers that he has posted since breaking into the league in 2001. Also one must consider the fact that he played in 16 fewer games then Howard did due to an injury. Howard smashed 58 homers in his first complete season of big league play en route to the National League MVP odds award. He silenced his critics by successfully hitting left-handed pitching. Howard also displayed the ability to use his power to the opposite field. Two attributes which should keep Howard amongst the league leaders in long balls for years to come. From the American League representatives, David Ortiz leads the field. Ortiz was second in the majors last year with 54 home runs. Except for 1999 when he only played in 10 games, Ortiz has improved on his home run numbers each year he has been in the majors (1997).
