Mountaineers climb into second round with win over Lamar

Sarah Miles added 11 points, seven boards and six assists for West Virginia (29-5), which will now battle the 11th-seeded San Diego State Aztecs in second round play.

Kalis Loyd led Lamar (26-8) with 15 points, while Jenna Plumley tallied nine points, seven rebounds and four assists.

The Mountaineers opened the game with a 12-0 run and used that to go into the break with a 33-21 advantage.

West Virginia continued its strong play in the second stanza, and went on to win by a 15-point margin.

The Mountaineers won the battle on the glass by a 48-28 margin.

El Duque expected to throw Tuesday

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets pitcher Orlando Hernandez, sidelined at spring training because of arthritis in his neck, is expected to resume throwing on Tuesday.

Hernandez received a cortisone shot Thursday after leaving camp and returning to New York to have his neck examined. The 41-year-old right-hander is penciled in as the team's No. 2 starter behind Tom Glavine.

El Duque's health is a major issue for the Mets, who won the NL East in 2007 and came within one victory of the World Series. Their aging and unsettled rotation is a big question mark this year.
