Nets, Wizards clash in Izod Center

02/28/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The New Jersey Nets haven't had a lot go their way this
season but closing out February with back-to-back wins on consecutive days
could be cause for celebration.
New Jersey will try and do exactly that by halting a franchise-record eight-
game home losing streak tonight against the Washington Wizards.
The Nets are coming off heir most impressive performance of the season last
night in Boston. Brook Lopez led the way with 25 points and Devin Harris
scored 23 in that one, as New Jersey notched a 104-96 road win against the
Celtics.
Courtney Lee added 21 points before leaving in the fourth quarter with a
sprained left ankle, while Kris Humphries and Keyon Dooling logged valuable
minutes off the bench, ending with 11 points each.
Humphries also grabbed 10 boards as the Nets used free throw shooting to pull
off the win. Lopez and Harris combined to go 21-of-24 from the line, while New
Jersey finished 34-of-41 overall. Boston, meanwhile, was 9-of-11 at the line.
New Jersey, which also notched just its the sixth win of the season, beat
Boston for the first time since February 2007 to snap a 12-game skid in the
series.
"It's not so much a difference between them, it's a difference between us. As
we progress through our season we've definitely improved," said Lopez about
the seemingly uneven matchup coming in. "Through the All-Star break...we've
played very well against teams and we finally broke through tonight."
The Nets (6-52) are trying to avoid compiling the worst record in NBA history
set by the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers, who went 9-73. They are winless (0-14)
this season in the second half of back-to-back games, however.
The Wizards, meanwhile, are coming off a tough overtime loss to New York on
Friday. David Lee's layup with 1.6 seconds remaining in the extra frame helped
New York edge Washington, 118-116, and snap an eight-game losing streak in
that one.
Washington center Andray Blatche totaled 26 points while setting career highs
in rebounds (18) and assists (six). Randy Foye and JaVale McGee each recorded
a double-double for the Wizards, who have dropped three of four.
Foye scored 22 points and dished out 10 assists, while McGee had a season-high
18 points and 10 boards to go along with five blocks.
"It's frustrating," Foye said. "You have to give New York a lot of credit
though. They played hard and finished the game."
The Wizards have won three straight and four of their last five over New
Jersey.

Brandon Roy Favorite to Win 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year
Portland TrailBlazer’s guard, Brandon Roy, is MySportsbook.com’s overwhelming favorite to win the NBA Rookie of the Year odds.
Despite missing 20 games due to an injury earlier this season, Roy has definitely put up the best numbers of his 1st year peers. In 32 games, Roy is averaging 15.3 PPG, 4.2 boards and 3.5 assists in over 33 minutes of play per game. While most rookies breakdown as the season progresses (see Morrison), Roy is only getting stronger as his playing time and scoring average has increased each month.
With 30 or so games left in the regular season, Roy isn’t a lock for the award by any means. Other rookies are putting together some pretty impressive campaigns and a few could give Roy a run for the award with increased playing time. Heading the list is first pick, Andrea Bargnani of the Toronto Raptors. Even though he has started only two games all season, Bargnani is averaging 10.3 PPPG while shooting 35% from deep.
Randy Foye of the Minnesota Timberwolves could be set to give Roy the best competition NBA Rookie of the Year betting lines. With the benching of Mike James, Foye looks like he could be the starter in the T-Wolves backcourt for the rest of the season. So far, Foye has averaged 9 PPG and 2.4 assists in just under 21 minutes per game. With his new role of starter, Foye’s numbers will definitely increase. In his first game as the new starting guard this past Sunday, Foye had 10 points; five rebounds and 8 assists. More importantly, he logged 34 minutes of playing time; his third highest run of the season.
Adam Morrison, of the Charlotte Bobcats, was the favorite early on in the season after averaging 15+ PPG through the first month of the season. Ever since his torrid start, Morrison’s point production has declined each month. This really isn’t surprising, considering at 6’8” he only weighs 205 lbs. Obviously he will need to hit the weights big time during the off-season in order to keep from breaking down in the future.
