Thunderstruck: Durant, Oklahoma City roll into Minnesota
Basketball Betting Lines
02/21/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Kevin Durant has been nearly unstoppable this season and
the NBA's second-leading scorer will lead the red-hot Oklahoma City Thunder
into the Twin Cities tonight to take on the Northwest rival Minnesota Timberwolves at the Target Center.
Durant scored seven of his game-high 36 points in overtime in a 121-118
victory over the New York Knicks last night at Madison Square Garden to spoil
the debut of Tracy McGrady. Durant, who hit the tying three-pointer in the
waning seconds of regulation, became the youngest player in NBA history to
score at least 25 points in 27 straight games. Allen Iverson reached the magic
number in 27 consecutive contests during his MVP 2000-2001 season. Michael
Jordan scored 25-plus points in 40 straight games during the 1986-87 season.
"We knew there was going to be a lot of energy in the building with Tracy
McGrady coming in," Durant said. "He played phenomenal. He's back. He played
well, but I'll take the win."
Russell Westbrook's 31 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds were overshadowed
for the Thunder, who have won eight in a row for the first time since a nine-
game run early in the 2004-05 campaign. Jeff Green tallied 16 points and 11
rebounds for the victors.
The Thunder have also won four in a row on the road and sport a 16-11 ledger
as the guest this season. They are currently fifth in the Western Conference
standings thanks to Durant, who is averaging 29.8 points per game. LeBron
James is barely ahead with an NBA-leading 29.9 ppg.
Minnesota continued its losing ways with Friday's 100-94 setback versus the
Chicago Bulls, its fifth consecutive loss. Corey Brewer had 19 points and
Jonny Flynn added 14 points, seven boards and six assists for the
Timberwolves, whose recent skid comes on the heels of a four-game winning
streak.
"We couldn't make no shots down the stretch, we couldn't even make free
throws," said Minnesota forward Ryan Gomes, who along with Al Jefferson
finished with 10 points. "They made some baskets and got some good plays and
that did it from them. We had opportunities to score, but we didn't take
advantage of them."
The T'Wolves are just 9-19 as the host this season.
Oklahoma City defeated Minnesota, 94-92, back on January 20 at the Target
Center and has won nine of the last 12 matchups between the clubs.

Super Bowl XLIV Odds
Super Bowl XLIII isn't even a week old yet and oddsmakers have already released Super Bowl XLIV odds.
Despite the Pittsburgh Steelers winning Super Bowl 43, the New England Patriots are 8/1 favorites to win Super Bowl 44.
Bet Super Bowl XLIV Future Odds
With their 27-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII, the Steelers became the latest NFL champion. But believe it or not, oddsmakers from online sports book MySportsbook.com don't have the Steelers the favorites to win Super Bowl XLIV next season.
That honor belongs to the New England Patriots, who are 8/1 favorites to win despite not even qualify for the postseason in 2008. The Pats also have a major decision to make regarding what to do with Matt Cassel, who played well in Tom Brady's (knee surgery) absence last year but is also a free agent this offseason.
Ironically, the Steelers aren't even oddsmakers second choice to win Super Bowl 44, as the Dallas Cowboys are listed right behind the Patriots at 9/1 despite not making the playoffs themselves. Clearly oddsmakers think the public will hop back on the Cowboys' bandwagon considering the immense talent they have and the opening of a brand new stadium.
After Dallas, then comes Pittsburgh at 10/1, but they share those odds with the New York Giants, who won Super Bowl XLII. The Indianapolis Colts and San Diego Chargers round out the top six teams at 12/1, while the Baltimore Ravens (14/1), Tennessee Titans (16/1), Carolina Panthers (18/1) and Philadelphia Eagles (18/1) complete the top 10.
The NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals got no love from oddsmakers as they were established as a 30/1 long shot to win next year's Super Bowl. They share those same odds with the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers – two teams that didn't even qualify for the postseason. Other long shots are the Kansas City Chiefs (100/1), Detroit Lions (100/1), St. Louis Rams (75/1) and Oakland Raiders (75/1).

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds
With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.
Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season. Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.
This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy. A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.
