The 14-time major titlist Sampras defeated the eight-time Grand Slam winner Agassi in three U.S. Open finals here in New York, including the 2002 title tilt, which marked the last official match of Sampras' brilliant career. The seven-time major champion McEnroe and eight-time Grand Slam titlist Lendl met in two U.S. Open finals in New York, with McEnroe winning in 1984 and Lendl prevailing in 1985. McEnroe captured four U.S. Open titles, while Lendl settled for three. "I have been going to Madison Square Garden since I was 8, and I have played some of my best tennis there," McEnroe said. "I am very happy to have the chance to play Ivan Lendl again in The World's Most Famous Arena." "I am really looking forward to playing in The Garden again," Lendl said. "I have so many great memories from matches with John there. It should be a great night for tennis."
