Panthers sign third-rounder EdwardsFootball Betting Lines07/09/2010 - Charlotte, NC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Carolina Panthers have signed third-round draft pick Armanti Edwards. Edwards was taken 89th overall in April's draft after a successful four-year run as quarterback at Appalachian State. The Panthers, however, have designs on using Edwards as a wide receiver. Edwards is the only two-time winner of the Walter Payton Award (2009-08) given to the nation's top FCS player. The four-time All-American led Appalachian State to four straight Southern Conference championships, two national titles and directed the Mountaineer offense for a memorable and dramatic upset of Michigan in 2008. At 5-foot-11 and 182 pounds, Edwards proved dynamic as the only player in FCS or FBS history with at least 9,000 passing yards and 4,000 rushing yards in a career. He ranks second in FCS history with 14,753 yards of total offense and accounted for 139 career touchdowns (74 passing, 65 rushing) while notching a 42-7 record as a starter.

El Duque expected to throw Tuesday PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets pitcher Orlando Hernandez, sidelined at spring training because of arthritis in his neck, is expected to resume throwing on Tuesday. Hernandez received a cortisone shot Thursday after leaving camp and returning to New York to have his neck examined. The 41-year-old right-hander is penciled in as the team's No. 2 starter behind Tom Glavine. El Duque's health is a major issue for the Mets, who won the NL East in 2007 and came within one victory of the World Series. Their aging and unsettled rotation is a big question mark this year.
