Mets ink Sandy Alomar Jr. to minor league dealBaseball Betting Lines02/19/2007 - Port St. Lucie, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The New York Mets have signed catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. The 40-year-old Alomar played in 27 games last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers before being traded to the Chicago White Sox on July 23. Alomar hit a combined .278 with eight doubles, one home run and 30 RBI in 46 games. Alomar was the 1990 American League Rookie of the Year and has been an American League All-Star six times in his career (1990-92, 1996-98). He also was the MVP of the 1997 All-Star Game and a Gold Glove winner in 1990. In 1,369 major league games, Alomar has hit .274 with 248 doubles, 10 triples, 112 home runs and 588 RBI with San Diego, the White Sox, Colorado, Texas and the Dodgers. Alomar's father, Sandy Sr., is the club's third base coach.
