Blackhawks aim to extend win streak in clash with Blues

Hockey Betting Lines

04/07/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Central Division champion Chicago Blackhawks will aim for a fifth straight victory when they host the St. Louis Blues tonight at United Center.

The Blackhawks clinched their first division title since 1992-93 on Sunday as a result of Detroit's loss in Philadelphia. Tonight, Chicago will try to draw even with idle San Jose for the top seed in the West. The Blackhawks are two points behind San Jose and have three games left in the regular season compared to two for the Sharks.

Chicago picked up its fourth consecutive victory Tuesday evening in Dallas. Colin Fraser scored twice and Antti Niemi made 26 saves on 28 shots, leading the Blackhawks to a 5-2 decision and a franchise-record 50th win of the season.

Jonathan Toews joined Marian Hossa with a goal and an assist for Chicago. Patrick Kane had the other goal for the Blackhawks, who broke the single- season win mark that was first set in 1970-71 and later matched in 1990-91.

"It's obviously huge; it's a good season. I think we're still chasing first place. We want to be at our best heading into the playoffs," Fraser said. "(The record) says a lot because the franchise has been around forever."

Chicago is playing its second-to-last home game of the regular season and has an excellent 28-8-3 record as the host this year. The Blackhawks will visit Colorado on Friday before closing their schedule with Sunday's home test against Detroit.

The Blues, meanwhile, were eliminated from postseason contention as a result of Colorado's win Tuesday in Vancouver. The Avalanche's victory in Vancouver made Colorado the eighth and final club to clinch a playoff spot in the West.

St. Louis has notched back-to-back wins and has five victories in its last six outings, but the hot streak won't be enough to get the Blues back to the playoffs for a second straight year.

The Blues played Monday against visiting Columbus and notched an overtime win to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. Erik Johnson scored the game-winner 3:59 into OT, leading St. Louis to the 2-1 decision at Scottrade Center.

The goal came on a slapper from the point for the Blues. The tally was set up after Marc Methot of Columbus was penalized for holding at 3:17.

Chris Mason stopped 27 shots as the Blues won their fifth straight at home.

"The first couple of power plays Columbus had, they were sharper than we wanted them to be," said Blues coach Davis Payne. "I think we had to make sure we understood how hard of fight it was going to take. We made the adjustment."

Blues forwards Keith Tkachuk (lower body) and Patrik Berglund (upper body) suffered injuries in Monday's win and are questionable for tonight. Defenseman Barret Jackman has missed the last two games with an upper-body injury and is also questionable.

St. Louis has a solid 22-13-4 record as the road team this year. The Blues will play their final home game of the season Friday against Anaheim before capping their scheduled Saturday in Nashville.

Chicago has taken three of five from the Blues this year. St. Louis, though, has won three of its last five in the Windy City.

American Idol Betting Odds: Season 6

The online gambling websites are in the process of deciphering each American Idol contestant and his or her chances of winning Season 6 to come up with the early American Idol betting lines.

Tim Dalton of MySportsbook.com has been locked away in a soundproof room coming up with all the latest tallies, we are told. "American Idol has become one of the most significant betting events of the year," claims Jack Black of MySportsbook.com.  "Last year, millions were bet during the season across the globe, not just in America.

It's tough early on since we really do not have a glimpse as to how well each of these individuals will perform solo on a week-to-week basis.  It's like Week 1 of the NFL.  Pre-season means nada!

We do know the 24 finalists however.

Sanjaya Malakar is the young man whose sister failed to make it into the Top 24.  He's very low key but - unless he totally flubs - will probably win over the young girlie vote for a few weeks anyway.  He's too young to go all the way, according to Payton O'Brien.

Brandon Rogers - Who?

Phil Stacy is the military guy who missed his daughter's birth because of the Memphis audition.  He should go a good distance.

Chris Sligh - He's got the humor and in many ways he's the Anti-American Idol much like last year's winner Taylor Hicks was.  And this is why he'll probably get pretty far in this competition.  He's chubby, white with a big curly afro....but more importantly, a great voice!  People love "real", not "real cute" to go all the way.

"Blake Lewis should go far because of his uniqueness and looks.  He's the boy next store with a twist - he beat boxes.  But on top of this, he's a great singer, and I adore him," Payton O'Brien relayed.

A talented beat-boxer Blake Lewis was a hit during the group sing in Hollywood but Simon explained that this is a singing contest just before he told him he was “in.”

Paul Kim has caught our own roving reporter, Jenny Woo's eyes.

"I love the fact that there is a Korean American on the show and he is bound to get more Asians tuning into the show," Woo said from her Miami Beach estate.  "There has never been a major presence of Asian-Americans on American Idol in the past.  He's a hottie with a nice voice so that should help to take him far.  Expect heavy betting action from the Asian community."

Sundance Head - He's not perfect, but he's got the personality that will take him through a few weeks, plus he's got the lineage (son of Roy Head - whose 1965 single, "Treat Her Right," hit No. 5 in the charts)

And the others:

Rudy Cardinas
AJ Tabaldo - the 5th time is the charm
Nicolas Pedro
Chris Richardson
Jared Cotter

The girls

"Melinda Doolittle has one of the best voices," says MySportsbook.com Reporter and an acclaimed dancer in her own right, Destiney Lewis.  "It is great to see a back up singer step out like she has.  The girl needs to gain more confidence but that can also be a positive.  I think she will go far."

Alena Alexander - Those tears (she never seems to stop bawling) should get her far.

"Single mom Lakisha Jones I suspect will be a pretty big favorite entering Week 1 of the competition," says Destiny Williams.  Jones is an excellent singer and down to earth.  "She'll have a wide appeal," echoed O'Brien.

Nicole Trellis - Seems to exert confidence.

Amy Krebs - a powerful singer.

Sportsbook betting odds favor Europe in Ryder Cup

September 19, – Despite holding a decided edge in the all-time series, with 24 wins, 2 ties and 10 losses, Team USA is the underdog again heading into the Ryder Cup in Kidare, Ireland this weekend, according to MySportsbook.com.  The Europeans have captured four of the past five editions, including their largest victory ever, an 18 ½ to 9 ½ thumping in Michigan in 2004. Current Ryder Cup betting odds favor the Europeans to continue their winning ways; they are a 4-5 bet to take the title, compared to 6-5 for the Americans.

Despite being knocked out in the first round of World Match play by Shaun Micheel, Tiger Woods is predicted to lead the US charge and be their highest point scorer for the week, with odds listed at 9-4 that he outpoints all other American players, including Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco to  name a  few.  Team USA has four relatively unknown players on the roster but all four are 2007 tournament winners and have posted some of season’s best performances, each earning over $1.5 million on the PGA TOUR.  They include Zach Johnson, Vaughan Taylor, JJ Henry and Brett Wetterich.

The experienced European squad includes the likes of Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabal and Darren Clarke, who’s emotions will be tested after the passing of his wife to a battle with cancer.  Donald and Garcia are in particularly good form and each is a 5-1 bet to lead the European squad in the points race. Donald has proven he can go head to head with Woods at a major event after a run for the $1.2 million purse at the PGA Championship. Garcia’s Ryder Cup credentials prove he’s ready for battle too.
