Badgers battle Phoenix in Green BayNCAA Basketball Betting Lines12/09/2009 - Green Bay, WI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The 20th-ranked Wisconsin Badgers will take on an in-state foe, the Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix, in non-conference action this evening. These teams have met on 15 previous occasions, and the Badgers have won all of those matchups. Wisconsin opened the season with three consecutive wins before falling to a tough Gonzaga team. Since that lone defeat, the Badgers have recorded three more victories, including last Saturday's 79-46 triumph over Grambling State. The most impressive win to date was a four-point decision over Duke last week, as the Blue Devils are considered one of the nation's elite teams. Bo Ryan's Wisconsin squad figures to be a major factor in the race for the Big Ten title, and many fans and analysts consider that league to be the toughest it has been in recent memory. As for Green Bay, it is an impressive 8-2 overall, including 2-0 against members of its own Horizon League. The last four outings for the squad have resulted in victory, including Saturday's 85-59 thrashing of league foe Illinois-Chicago. It is obvious that the Phoenix have yet to play a team of Wisconsin's caliber, so Tod Kowalczyk will find out a great deal about his team this evening. Clearly, strong defense has been the key to success for Wisconsin, and that comes as no surprise to those who have followed the program under coach Ryan. The Badgers are allowing only 58.1 ppg on 38.3 percent field goal efficiency, and they are generating 69.9 ppg at the offensive end. There players are averaging double figures in scoring for Wisconsin, and Trevon Hughes provides 16.7 ppg to lead the way. Jon Leuer adds 13.9 ppg to the mix, and Jason Bohannon brings 11.0 ppg to the mix. In the 33-point romp over Grambling State last Saturday, Hughes came through with 20 points, while Leuer, Bohannon and Jordan Taylor contributed 11 points apiece. The Badgers shot a stellar 60 percent from the field and had 18 assists against only 10 turnovers. They also earned a 37-27 rebounding advantage and limited the Tigers to 29.1 percent field goal efficiency. Green Bay is scoring 74.2 ppg this season while allowing 64.9 ppg to opponents. Rahmon Fletcher is tops through 10 outings with 17.2 ppg, and Troy Cotton provides 14.9 ppg. As for Bryquis Perine, he is generating 12.8 ppg for the Phoenix. Green Bay played extremely well at both ends of the floor in the victory over Illinois-Chicago last time out. The Phoenix connected on 55.6 percent of their field goal attempts while limiting the Flames to 35.5 percent shooting. The fact that the Phoenix also forced 19 turnovers was key to the win, as was a 19-11 edge in points from the foul line. Fletcher poured in 24 points in 30 minutes of action. Perine added 16 points and eight assists, and he did not commit a single turnover. As for Cotton, he netted 12 points in 33 minutes of action.
