Angels, Jays wrap up set in Toronto

Baseball Betting Lines

04/18/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Right-hander Ervin Santana can pitch the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to a0 series sweep this afternoon while picking up his first win of 2010 when the defending American League West Division champions head to Rogers Centre to complete a three-game set with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 27-year-old Santana, who won 16 games for the Angels in 2008, has gotten off to a winless start this year, giving up 13 hits and nine runs in 11 2/3 innings of losses to Minnesota and the New York Yankees.

He's walked six batters and struck out 11 while opponents have recorded a .277 batting average. Santana's career opposition batting average is .261.

Santana was 8-8 in 24 appearances for Los Angeles last season with a 5.03 ERA.

Lifetime against Toronto, Santana is 2-3 in six starts.

For the Blue Jays, second-year lefty Ricky Romero continues a precocious start in the majors. A former first-round draft pick (sixth overall, 2005), the Californian reached the big leagues last season and was among Toronto's best starters, winning 13 games in 29 outings with a 4.30 ERA in 178 innings.

He's begun 2010 in the same fashion, tossing seven innings of one-run ball in a no-decision at Texas before downing the Chicago White Sox, 4-2, while allowing a hit and two earned runs in eight innings.

Opponents are batting just .120 off him through 15 innings.

Romero won his lone start against the Angels last season, allowing eight hits and two runs in six innings with a pair of strikeouts.

On Saturday, Joe Saunders threw eight solid innings and Howie Kendrick went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer, as the Angels downed Toronto, 6-3, in Saturday's middle installment.

Saunders (1-2) allowed two unearned runs on five hits and one walk, and struck out two, while Kendrick finished with three total RBI. Juan Rivera hit the 100th homer of his career in the win, the Angels' third in four games.

Prior to Saturday's contest, the Angels had not won consecutive games this season.

Brian Tallet (1-1) took the loss after allowing four runs on five hits and one walk in five innings. Lyle Overbay doubled and had the lone RBI for Toronto, which has lost four of six.

The Angels split their eight matchups with the Jays last season, but own a 12-7 advantage in the series since the start of the 2008 campaign.

Eastern Conference Playoff Betting Trends

We all know by now that the “public” loves to put their money on the FAVORITES and the OVERS.  Just by taking a quick glance at Sportsbook.com’s “Betting Trends” it appears as is this tendency will continue as far as the Eastern Conference games are concerned.  For the inaugural games of the first round, 69% of the early money is on Toronto -4.5; 59% of bettors prefer Chicago -4.5; 84% are backing Detroit -9; and 56% think Cleveland -11.5 is the way to go.  As far as TOTALS are concerned, the only UNDER the “public” is backing is the Cleveland/ Washington game in which 83% are pounding the UNDER (190).  Remember, there is no better way to predict a possible line change than by monitoring MySportsbook.com’s “Betting Trends”.   By determining who the “public” is backing, you can get the most ideal line for your bet.  For example, if you are siding with the public you better place your bet before the line moves in the wrong direction.  On the other side of the coin, if you prefer the team that the “public” is betting against; you might be able to get and extra ½ or even more by placing your bet a bit later.  Under the “Betting Trends” section, Sportsbook.com also provides plenty of statistical data and trends in order for the bettor to make the most informed pick.  Below are some extremely important trends for the first round opponents of the Eastern Conference match-ups, more can be found at MySportsbook.com
